Teaching Philosophy
As a studio voice professor, I pride myself on identifying and developing my students' authentic voices with a grounding in classical and commercial pedagogy that is differentiated for each student. By building on a student's natural strength and talent, I encourage a healthy, sustainable sound, rooted in dramatic expression.
My students have gone on to graduate studies at prestigious music programs and have won national acclaim in acapella groups. I am happy to teach students at all levels from high school students to adults amateurs and professionals.
Vocal study with me includes textual and musical analysis, support with diction, dramatic coaching, discussions about the business of singing, best practices for auditioning, and recital and role preparation.
My Story
I have trained in a variety of settings. My undergraduate degree in English taught me the value of a liberal arts education for young singers as they navigate this ever-changing world of music and creative arts. A strong, diverse educational background prepares students to develop satisfying correlating careers alongside music which adds financial stability and increases the freedom and to continue as lifelong musicians and performing artists. I earned a Masters of Music in Voice from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music in Voice and Opera Direction. My conservatory training allowed for deep focus in classical and contemporary commercial vocal pedagogy, movement, languages, and performance practice.
